Unfortunately my father's article Illusions and Great Disappointments: Major General Mitford and 42nd Division, 1917 (appearing in Stand To! 124, October 2021) was published with the wrong map but the caption from the right map... so anyone attempting to follow the 42nd Division's actions under Mitford's command during the Third Battle of Ypres will surely have become quite confused. The following is the annotated British trench map which was intended to accompany the article; the significant named locations mentioned in the text were highlighted for ease of reference.

The following is the German map which was actually published with the article, showing the approximate distribution of the defenders. Luckily for us (but not for 42nd Division) they were Württembergers, meaning that not only were they well documented but also that the relevant sources have been digitised. This map was taken from the Royal Württemberg Army's quasi-official history of the war, Die Württemberger im Weltkriege.
